Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
