After weeks of suspense, schemes and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This article discloses key moments from The Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming tension.
However on Thursday night, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
From nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the other players that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while someone else described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off a masterclass in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"Most people didn't target him because how can you eliminate a person so loveable?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the program.
"I want to participate once more... I don't think it would work again!"
The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
As ever, the comedian gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've murdered national treasures openly. I'm clearly more deceptive and traitor than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with a national team", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at breakfast resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them destroying images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, it was time for the roundtable.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," said a player, while their partner just giggled.
And one did stick to his promise. Yet, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote another user.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their ally, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant calls the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, just three players remained in the game: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. The same decision was made by another, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players consoled the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," the winner said.
And he even made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and sometimes unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
