Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt prepared to share openly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the production, remarking that he cannot recall "any day without joy".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a distinct piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he understood the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the local authorities.
A court order put a restriction on the investigation to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities shared divergent reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative statements that were widely condemned by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the detractors recently. Speaking on his program, Rogan described the remarks as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an adviser should have intervened when the decision to speak on the tragedy was made.
