Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were suspended due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had initially projected that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
