Government Appeals to High Court After Unsuccessful Bid to Stop Snap Payment Order
On Friday, shortly following a US appeals court ruled that the administration is required to pay for food stamp disbursements, the White House turned to the US top court in a further bid to halt the order.
Within hours, the top US court released an urgent ruling temporarily blocking entire Snap food aid benefits, which close to 42 hundred thousand Americans count on to buy groceries.
“Legal counsel continue battling, around the clock, to support and promote the president's agenda,” the top legal officer announced on social media shortly after 9:30pm ET.
Government representatives had requested the appellate court to block a judge's order that it issue this month's entire Snap assistance amid a government funding lapse, and had their request rejected hours later.
The High Court Releases Emergency Order Halting Entire Nutrition Assistance Benefits
The top court's ruling was issued after the administration asked a federal appeals court last Friday to block a court ruling requiring them to provide the upcoming entire food stamp benefits amid a federal closure.
After that request to halt was denied, the administration turned to the supreme court in a further bid to prevent the ruling to pay for nutrition assistance benefits.
