‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, who directed her in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
A Tragic Discovery
Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”
Legal Proceedings Unfold
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan added. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”
Family Members Issue a Message
Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Peers Pay Their Respects
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
A Storied Career
When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.
Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
