Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year after leading derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive chants about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past History Involving the Striker and the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
