UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
